The following is a summary of the Town Council meeting held on Monday, March 3rd.
25 Watson Abatement and Demolition Consultant Proposal Approved. The Town will engage Verdantas LLC, to provide abatement and demolition consulting services for the removal of the former Carmelite Monastery building at 25 Watson Avenue, owned by the Town. The proposal includes project management and contract administration, an asbestos-containing material survey and abatement plan, abatement and demolition oversight and monitoring, and perimeter monitoring.
Bids for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Units Approved. The approved bid will provide new AED units at multiple locations in town, including 10 parks and athletic fields, and replace six units installed at Town facilities or transported in public safety vehicles. Funding received from national opioid litigation settlement agreements will cover the cost.
Bayside YMCA Pool Agreement Approved. The Agreement with the Greater Providence YMCA will provide Town residents access to the outdoor pool at the Bayside Y at special day pass rates for families and individuals. The five-year Agreement with the option to extend additional years also provides free access on heat advisory days and Town Beach closure days (when feasible). The Council previously approved the use of $115,035.69 of the Town’s American Rescue Plan Act funding allocation to pay for repairs to the pool, in exchange for resident access.
Rezoning Request for Parcel at 60 Bay Spring Avenue Denied. After a Public Hearing, the Council denied the request from the Bay Spring Crossing Condominium parcel to rezone the property to a new residence-only multifamily zone.
Speed Cameras Update. The Police Chief provided an update on data gathered on speeding near schools, completed as part of the Town’s evaluation of a proposal to install speed cameras in school zones. A more detailed report will be presented at the April 7th meeting.
Town Council Meeting on the FY2026 Budget (2/26/25)
The Council approved the Town Manager’s Proposed FY2026 Budget, with an amendment that reduced the funding proposed for the Public Works equipment replacement account by $15,000, and adding that amount to the Parks and Trails capital account.
