Barrington Police Chief Michael E. Correia was sworn in on Sunday, January 11th, as President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association (RIPCA) alongside the rest of the 2026 Executive Board at the organization’s 76th installation ceremony in Warwick. Chief Correia previously served on the RIPCA Executive Board as Vice President in 2025, as well as Sergeant-at-Arms in 2024.
Chief Correia joined the Barrington Police Department as Chief in June 2021 after a 34-year career with the Providence Police Department. His experience includes serving as Commander of the Detective Division, District Commander, and Commander of the Narcotics Unit. He concluded his Providence Police service as a Major in Command of the Uniformed Division.
The installation ceremony featured keynote remarks from Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, as well as U.S. Senator Jack Reed and U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner.
