Tax Payment Options

The Town of Barrington recommends that taxpayers use one of the following payment methods: Lockbox, Direct Payment, Online, or Drop Off Box.

Lockbox

Original tax bill payment stub must be enclosed with payment and mailed to:

Providence, RI 02940-9716

Please note: a separate check is required for each account that is being paid.

Direct Payment (Automatic Withdrawal)

Taxpayers may authorize the Town of Barrington to withdraw funds directly from their checking or savings account on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.  Please complete and submit the Authorization for Direct Payment form if you would like to utilize this payment method. Please contact the Tax Collector’s office if you would like to discontinue, make a change, or require more information about this option.

Online Payment (MasterCard or Visa only)

Online tax payments may be made using a credit/debit card, but the payment amount and the tax bill account number are needed before using this service because the system is not interactive. When entering the tax bill account number, only use the numbers; omit the letter and the dash. A payment confirmation will be generated after a successful transaction, and it is recommended that a copy be kept for future reference.

Please note: a 2.49% convenience fee is charged for processing each debit or credit card transaction when using this service. The payment processing company charges this fee, and the Town of Barrington does not benefit from this fee.

Drop Off Box (Checks Only)

Checks may be put in the payment slot, which is located on the left-hand side of the Finance/Tax Collector’s front entrance door to the Town Hall. Please include the tax bill payment stub and/or write the account number(s) on the check, and enclose a self-addressed, postage paid envelope if you want a receipt.

Please note: payments received prior to the end of any given business day will be posted using that date; payments left in the payment slot after the end of any given business day, will be posted using the next business date.

Other Payment Options

Tax payments may be mailed to the Tax Collector’s office at the Town Hall.  Please include the tax bill payment stub and/or write the account number(s) on the check, and enclose a self-addressed, postage paid envelope if you want a receipt.  Envelopes must be postmarked by the due date to avoid a late penalty.

Payments may also be made in person at the office using cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express).
