Significant progress continues at Haines Park. Over the past several weeks, hundreds of yards of material have been screened, reused, and supplemented with fresh compost. This process is laying a strong foundation for healthy, vibrant playing fields.
6/2/2025: The project remains on schedule. Key activities completed or currently underway include:
Pathway Installation: Partial paving of the walking path around the park is complete.
Drainage Improvements: Construction of drainage ponds is in progress to support storm water management due to proximity of the drainage to the bay being nearby .
Irrigation Prep Work: Preparations for the irrigation system have begun, awaiting further plans and specifications before that moves forward.

Please be advised: Additional temporary fencing was installed due to a significant number of residents and unleashed dogs entering the active construction zone. For everyone’s safety, the construction area must not be used or accessed by the public under any circumstances. Unauthorized use not only poses serious safety risks but also impacts project progress and cost. We respectfully ask all residents to avoid the area until the project is complete.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to complete this important project.

Regarding project timelines, work near the dog park area is expected to be completed by October/November, allowing that section to reopen once conditions permit. However, the athletic fields will remain closed through 2026 due to the necessary grass establishment process.
For optimal turf development, newly seeded grass requires an extensive growth period to establish deep root systems that can withstand heavy use. Typically, this involves:
-Initial Germination (2-3 weeks): New grass sprouts but remains fragile.
-Early Root Development (2-3 months): Roots begin anchoring into the soil, but the turf is still susceptible to damage.
-Full Establishment (12+ months): The grass matures, creating a durable and resilient playing surface capable of supporting athletic activities.
Opening the fields too soon could compromise the integrity of the turf, leading to uneven surfaces and long-term maintenance issues. By keeping the fields closed through the 2026 growing season, we ensure a strong, healthy playing surface for years to come.
