Veterans Day
Thank You Veterans Advisory Committee Members!
The Town of Barrington, in partnership with its Veterans Advisory Committee and local volunteers, held its Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11th, at 11:00 a.m. outside Town Hall.
Retired U.S. Navy Captain Chris Isleib served as Master of Ceremonies, and local Scouts posted the Colors. Next, Barrington High School student Jonathan Currie sang the National Anthem, followed by a prayer from Rabbi Howard Voss-Altman of Temple Habonim. Afterwards, Barrington High School student Connor Meehan played Taps. Finally, attendees observed a two-minute moment of silence at 11:11 a.m.
The ceremony continued with Lieutenant Colonel Brian Carroll, U.S. Army (Ret.), delivering the keynote address. Building on this tribute, organizers then unveiled the Grenada Flag Marker to honor Marine Corps First Lieutenant Jeffrey Scharver, a Barrington native killed in action.
Following the formal ceremony, community members were encouraged to connect with local veterans. Attendees visited the Operation Stand Down-Rhode Island booth, where informational literature detailed the organization’s mission and provided specific ways residents could actively support veterans in need throughout the year. Volunteers collected donated goods for Operation Stand Down, which will be donated later this week.
At noon, the inaugural Honor Ruck commenced, marking the next portion of the commemorative day. The symbolic walk started at Town Hall and ended at Atria Bay Spring Village. Upon arrival, Congressman Gabe Amo addressed the group, which included veterans, residents, families, and friends. Following his speech, refreshments were served, allowing participants to further engage with residents and veterans of Atria.
Barrington proudly honors all who have served—past and present—for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation. In particular, special thanks go to Doug Prindiville, who both designed and made 1st Lt Scharver’s Grenada flag marker, as well as to Isaac Juodvalkis, who donated the materials used for the marker.
