Create Foundation Gardens that Say "Welcome Home" to Native Plants

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

Join the Barrington Garden Club for speaker Kathy Connolly at the Barrington Public Library. Registration required for nonmembers. Please email or call the library to register.

Kathy Connolly is a Connecticut-based landscape designer, writer, blogger and speaker. In her newsletter, Speaking of Landscapes, she articulates her belief that "enduring landscape design balances our desire for attractive spaces with care for our fellow creatures and the environment we share." Her 2017 talk at Barrington GC focused on lawn reduction and the use of ground covers and was exceptionally well received. Today's talk will consider the design problems posed by the foundation area around our homes and ten will look at native plants that fit into that highly visible setting. The foundation garden, she says, "need not be a bastion of imports such as pachysandra and boxwood!" She'll help us strike a balance between curb appeal and support of nature.
