Sea Level Rise, Coastal Adaptation and Resilience
Teresa Crean, AICP, Director of Planning, Building, And Resilience - Town of Barrington
As sea levels rise as a result of global warming, coastal communities like Barrington face increasing challenges. Barrington has been a leader in climate change mitigation, forming a Municipal Resilience Program in 2019. Early in 2022 the Town of Barrington was fortunate to have Teresa Crean join the Town as Director of Planning, Building, and Resilience, who is a community planner and coastal management extension specialist formerly at the Coastal Resources Center at the University of Rhode Island. Her work has included coastal community planning, renewable energy planning, and marine spatial planning as well as issues facing aquaculture and working waterfronts. Teresa has a Master of Landscape Architecture from SUNY in Syracuse, a BS in Environmental Policy/Natural Resource Management from the University of Michigan, and is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
She will share a "knowledge on all things coastal adaption and sea level rise" as well as some new and meaningful coastal resilience projects in Barrington. The event promises to be a highlight of the Garden Club program year.
