Town Manager's Daily COVID-19 Update

  • Summary of Restrictions:

    • Residents are required to stay at home with the following exceptions:

      • Traveling to work, if unable to work from home.

      • Traveling for medical treatment or necessities (food, medicine, gas, . . .).

      • Exercising, practicing physical distancing (>6’).

    • Quarantine for contact with a positive test patient is 14 days.

    • Non-residents and seasonal residents arriving in Town must quarantine for 14 days.

    • Gather in groups no larger than 5 people.

    • Barrington recreational facilities are closed.

    • Parking lots at all RIDEM recreational facilities are closed.

  • Easter & Passover Celebrations - unfortunately, the stay at home order will NOT be lifted prior to the holy holidays. Residents are requested not to gather in groups greater than five (5) and to practice physically distancing (6 feet).

  • Please properly dispose of face masks and gloves in your own home.

  • RI Job Lot is offering free fabric to be used to make face masks.

  • Barrington Hotline 247-1900 X384 is available for referrals, assistance and volunteers.

  • Barrington Town Hall is closed to visitors. Real estate recordings and marriage licenses can be completed with an appointment. Call 247-1900 X1.

  • Food - if in need of a food delivery, you have several options available:

  • Trash Collection - trash and recycling will continue to be picked-up on schedule. The collection of yard waste and bulk items has been suspended due to contractor manning issues. Yard waste can be taken to the Town’s Recycling Center. Brush will be picked up and chipped by DPW through May 15. Please call 247-1907 to schedule an appointment.

  • Trout Fishing - DEM opened trout fishing season yesterday. To allow appropriate physical distancing, licensed fisherman with last name beginning from A through M can fish on even-numbered calendar days and last names from N through Z on odd-numbered calendar days. Ponds within State parks will be closed to fishing.

Barrington Revises Trash Collection Due To State of Emergency

The Town of Barrington is announcing that due to the current State of Emergency there will be changes in the normal trash collection.┬áThe Town’s trash contractor, MEGA Disposal, is operating with a limited staffing due to illness and quarantine requirements. Please know that all employees are physically evaluated prior to being allowed on the trucks for symptoms of COVID-19 and other health related issues. The Town’s priority is the continuation of weekly rubbish and recycling collection while keeping our residents and the MEGA employees safe.

The following changes have been made to trash collection through the end of April:

  1. Collection will be strictly limited to trash that is in bags or in a barrel and recycling in an appropriate container.

  2. Yard waste will be collected curbside for the remainder of this week ending on Friday, April 3rd, and is then suspended for the remainder of April. Residents are asked not to leave yard waste at the curb until collections resume.

  3. Bulk collection, such as furniture and other household items will not be collected and should not be placed at the curb until further notice.

  4. Residents may drop off yard waste at the Recycling Center located at 84 Upland Way (plastic bags prohibited). The hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The Center is closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.

  5. White goods (metal) will continue to be picked up by DPW by appointment.

Barrington and Warren East Bay Bike Path Bridges Closed for Safety Concerns

Recently passed TIP amendment moves funds up for replacement spans

From RIDOT: The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) today announced the closure of the Barrington River and Palmer River bike path bridges, which carry the East Bay Bike Path, starting Friday, November 1. They will be replaced.

RIDOT has inspected these wooden deck bridges every three months. Both bridges are structurally deficient and have advanced deterioration of structural elements. Originally used by the Providence, Warren and Bristol Railroad, the bridges date back to 1900 and were repurposed in 1990 as part of the original construction of the bike path. Two years ago, RIDOT closed the sidewalks on both structures because of the deteriorating condition of the bridges.

As part of the recently approved major amendment to the state's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), RIDOT moved up the funding to replace these bridges by three years. RIDOT will begin design work shortly, and that work will be ongoing next year. As design advances, RIDOT will create a construction schedule. The bridges will remain closed during this process. $10 million has been allocated for this work.

During the closure, signs will direct path users to dismount and walk their bikes on the sidewalks of the nearby vehicular bridges. Shoulder widths are narrow on these brides, and riding over the bridges is not recommended.

Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Key Dates:

  • For the Tuesday, June 2nd Presidential Preference Primary the deadline to register to vote is Sunday, May 3rd at 4:00 p.m. Barrington residents can do so on that day at the Public Safety Building, 100 Federal Road, with Police Dispatch.

  • Monday, May 4th is the last day to disaffiliate for the Tuesday, June 2nd Presidential Preference Primary.

  • If you have not registered to vote or wish to disaffiliate before these dates, you are welcome to do so at the Town Clerk's office at Town Hall.

  • Presidential preference primary mail ballot applications must be received by the Town Clerk's office not later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, for the Tuesday, June 2 primary election. Download the application.

  • Emergency ballots can be cast at the Town Clerk's office Wednesday, May 13 through Monday, June 1, 2020.

Eco-Depot - Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste

Eco-Depot is a free service for properly disposing of household hazardous waste from RI households (for non-residential hazardous waste disposal click here). You can make an appointment for an Eco-Depot collection via http://rirrc.org/ecodepot. Appointments are made to minimize wait times at the facility.
