The Town provides the following major public services:
The Public Works Department provides a full range of services including street maintenance, snow removal, and maintenance of Town property.
The Police Department has a force that consists of 24 sworn police officers and a staff of 7 civilian personnel.
The Fire Department has one fire station staffed by a Fire Chief and 24 full-time fire fighters.
Town awarded grants for park improvements
The State announced on May 14, 2014, the Town has been awarded two Recreation Development grants:
$84,000 Passive/Historic Park grant for passive park improvements in the Civic Center Historic District, which includes the Town Hall, Library and Wood's Pond. The project is to include an improved kayak launch with benches at the Barrington River, a walkway to the east of the Library, a new fence with an overlook along the perimeter of the Kids Kove playground, and other work improving pedestrian connectivity in the district. Total project cost is approximately $95,000.
$68,500 for improvements to the Legion Way rink, including resurfacing, striping and new lighting. Total project cost is approximately $140,000.
